Instagram Profile Comments API

Comments across a profile's recent posts in one call, each row carrying the post it was left on. The fastest way to read what an audience is saying to an account without walking its feed post by post.

Billing and freshness

1 credit per comment. Failed calls are never charged, and empty results are free up to 25 a day. Stored copies are age-aware, 15 minutes to 7 days.

What you get back

A page of comments. Each row has the comment text, its author, its timestamp and a post object with the post's id, URL, caption and date. limit sets how many comments come back; the call reads as many recent posts as needed to fill it, about ten comments per post.

Comment ids and like counts are not published on these rows and are null.

Reach for it when

  • Audience research: the words an account's followers use, across its latest posts.
  • Sentiment monitoring for a brand's own account on a schedule.
  • Finding engaged commenters for outreach or community work.

Not the right call when

  • You want every comment under one specific post, with ids and like counts. That is the Comments endpoint by post URL.
  • You want the posts themselves rather than their comments. That is Profile Posts.

Things to know

Recent posts, a slice of each

The call reads the newest posts and takes up to ten comments from each until limit is reached. For a complete thread under one post, use the Comments endpoint with that post's URL.

1 credit per comment

Charged per comment row returned.

Questions

How is this different from the Comments endpoint?

Comments reads one post by URL and returns full rows with ids and like counts. Profile Comments reads a handle and returns a sample of comments across its recent posts, each tagged with its post, without ids or like counts.

How many posts does it read?

About one post per ten comments requested. limit=50 reads the five newest posts and returns up to ten comments from each.

What does it cost?

1 credit per comment returned. Empty results are free up to the daily allowance.
